Will You Give a Little Money to Help, This Year Alone in Our Community, More Than 800 Animals Less Fortunate Than Your Own?
Dear Neighbor,
In the five years since we opened Oldingham Cats & Dogs Shelter, we’ve provided care and rehomed an average of 800 animals a year or about 4,000 animals! That’s $4,000 lives saved! And we couldn’t have done it without the support of the people of Oldingham County.
Today, I’m reaching out to see if you’ll help continue that support. Our shelter’s annual operating budget is $250,000. We currently receive $50,000 from our local government, which leaves us needing to raise $200,000 this year alone. If you can, please consider becoming a regular donor (or, if you’d prefer, making a one-time donation).
You can donate online at www.Oldingham-CatsAndDogs.org/donate. Or, if you’d find it more convenient, feel free to use the enclosed donation form and postage-paid envelope.
Whatever money you can donate will help us provide a bounty of humane services to the animals in our community, including:
· Rehoming cats and dogs (an average of 800 a year)
· Behavioral evaluations and training to ready pets for a smooth adoption
· Spaying and neutering – and other necessary surgeries to restore pets to optimum health
· Complete immunizations, medications, and treatments
· Animal behavior and welfare training for community members – check our website calendar for kids and family classes!
How Far Does Your Money Go?
Oldingham Cats and Dogs Shelter is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit that operates at a 20 percent budget –the most efficient nonprofit operating budget in our state! That means 80 percent of the money you contribute goes directly to the animals in need.
Look at how your donations benefit the animals in our community:
· $20 – covers the cost and medicine to spaying and neutering two animals safely
· $40 – enables us to microchip three animals, ensuring that pets who may get lost in the future safely find their way home
· $80 – will cover emergency services, food supplies and rehoming services for one of the pets in our community
These are just a few of the many ways we responsibly, thoughtfully select and allocate donations provided by you and other kindhearted people to provide the animals who come to Oldingham with the best possible care.
If you’re able to, please consider becoming a MEMBER OF THE PACK, our preferred donors' club, for a guaranteed monthly commitment of $60 or more. Such contributions enable us to plan to continue to provide the highest quality care and treatment to the animals who come to Oldingham – and, ultimately, to find them loving, forever homes.
Pack Member benefits include:
· Attend our monthly meetups at local dog parks and take home some treats, tennis balls, and potty bags.
· Enjoy discounted rates on our animal behavior and welfare training – we even offer classes specifically for kids.
· During spring and summer, join us for guided hikes on dog-friendly trails around Oldingham County.
· A coupon book (digital or print) for exclusive deals at your favorite local pet stores including, Mud Bay, PetSmart, Petco, The Whole Pet Shop, and more
· Cat toy-of-the month club for our feline pack animals
Now I want to introduce you to two animals we’ve had the pleasure of giving a second chance at a great life.
Meet Calgary, an exceptionally good girl. Calgary is a four-year-old shepherd-collie mix. When her owner passed away in 2017, she was rehomed twice before being brought to Oldingham.
She arrived at the shelter with serious skin-conditions caused by food allergies that had been neglected.
After medical and behavioral assessments from our staff, we determined the ideal diet and medications and the best possible environment for her to thrive. You can now find her playing fetch or swimming at Myrtle Beach as part of a family of four.
The cat to your right is Harold. Weighing only six pounds when he first came to Oldingham, Harold was often mistaken for a kitten.
You won’t find this ginger tabby roaming the streets any longer, as he was when he was found by a volunteer and brought into Oldingham, but his new family assures us he’s the perfect housecat now. Harold is fond of patrolling room to room hunting flies that find their way indoors during our hot summers.
It was only through proper nutrition and socialization that he put on a healthy weight and learned to trust people again. Now he is beloved by his family of three.
